Have you ever received that shiny Gakken volume, or other Japanese language books on the IJN in the mail, looked through it admiring the images, but only regret that you cannot read any of the enclosed articles??? Well, regret no more! Sander Kingsepp who is an expert IJN historian, and Japanese translator have come to the rescue! Sander have put his two areas of expertise together and written short “IJN Lore” articles for our consumption. In collaboration with him, I have put together these articles on my website’s “IJN Lore” section for your consumption and enjoyment. As a bonus, they also included images that go with the story. |
| 2005/12/18 | Added a new "IJN Wrecks" section with a new collaborative page with information and images from Kevin Denlay on the wreck of IJN cruiser HAGURO and reunion. |

| 2004/12/19 | I have added a Japanese to Gregorian calendar converter in the "Reference - Aids" section. I find this useful when reading legends in Japanese books which usually only use the Japanese calendar. I hope this will also be useful to you. |
| 2004/12/16 | Added a whole bunch of new items in the "Items for sale" area. Prices have also been reduced for some of the SOTW issues. |
| 2004/12/14 | The "Maru Special Pictorials" reference section has just been updated. Apart from the normal full resolution scans of their covers, these magazines have full resolution scans of both front and back covers. Some volumes (such as volumes 92-100, 101-120, 121-135) with paintings which cover both pages can now be seen in their full glory. Some of the earlier volumes (1-15) that have different initial vs. reprint covers can also be seen. |

Just in case you have missed it, many of the REFERENCE sections have been heavily updated. "Technical" section has been split into "IJN specific" and "non IJN specific" sections with many new additions and high res scans of these books. Other sections significantly upgraded include the IJN Historical section, the Anatomy of the Ship Series, all the Polish books sections (AJ Monografie Morskie, BS Destroyers of WWII, BS Flota XX Stulecia, BS Profile Morkie, Nautilus, Okrety Swiata) , the FBMS Model Art Magazine, the Futabasha Super Detail 3D CG magazines, the three Gakken series(DX, pictorial and Rekishi Gunzo), the Kojinsha publications (Japanese Naval Vessels HC, Maru Graphic Quarterly, Maru Magazine), Warship Pictorial and Warship Profile. All have upgraded to a new format which includes the non-IJN volumes which are "greyed" out to make research easier. Also included are high res scans (click on the book cover image) whenerver available. A new section for warship plans has also been introduced with a special section for Plan books, Japanese Navy Ships and Craft Plans, NAVPLAN, and some unknown plans. Two new sets of books have also been introduced, these are the IJN Detailed Combat Report and Navy. Enjoy.... |
| 2004/11/22 | Started to do a major update of the REFERENCE section with some help from Lars Ahberg. The TECHNICAL section is done but many other sections will also be updated with new sections added. In addition to new books being added, my hope is that a high res image will be availble for each reference. It's a little bit of a mess now but I would ask for patience as this will be done over the next few weeks or months. |
| 2004/09/19 | A number of new tables designed to help researchers identify IJN submarines has been added. They can be accessed directly via this new entry page or via the root reference page here under "Reference - IJN Submarine number table". |
| 2004/09/17 | A new section which covers "IJN warship plans" has been added. My goal is to aid researchers looking for plans of specific warships. The plans can be accessed directly via this new entry page or via the root reference page here under "Reference - IJN Warship plans. |

| 2004/08/27 | A new section titled "IJN Lore" has been added to this website. My goal here is to capture and archive interesting stories and findings from the message board "Japanese Navy & Ships" and also from readers of this website. A BIG thank to Jim Lansdale and Dave Pluth from the "Japanese Navy & Ships" site for supporting this. The guiding rule for the choice of articles is covered under the rules page. The first story has just been uploaded and I look forward to many contributions from the reader in the near future. |
| 2004/08/21 | Over 500 high resolution images of covers of "Ships of The World" have been uploaded. |
| 2004/08/09 | The "Ships of The World" pages are coming along. Images of the cover page for volumes 1-444 (1957-1991) have been added. To enhance the utility of these images, some of the newer files are now linked to a much higher resolution (712x1008 pixel) image of the cover. Here is an example. To access these images, just click on the low res images. The resolution is high enough to read all the text and to provide a better "eye candy" for the visitors. Also significantly enhanced is the page which covers the "Special Issues". It now covers most of the volumes dating back from the present to 1975 i.e. when these issues were first published. |
| 2004/08/02 | The "Ships of The World" section has been significantly updated from it's inception year of 1957 to 1984. The intent is to update it to the present over the next month. A new section called "Japan Visit" has also been added. The goal here is to identify and categorize various IJN-rrelated sites in Japan for future visits - a topic we have been discussing on the Ships & Navy bulletin board of J-Aircraft site. |

| 2001/03/11 | My web hosting service recently transfered my web site. As a result, it appears that some of you are only seeing broken links while others have had no problem. In order to assess the magnitude of this problem (and to get the hosting service to address this issue), can those who are having problems please contact me via e-mail ? Sorry but I will need information regarding your operating system, browser, and version. Thanks. |

| 2000/08/25 |
Made a major update in my Reference pages. My two loves with the Imperial Japanese Navy are building ship models and collecting books on the IJN. To help in the latter hobby, I have started scanning in the covers of all the books in my library. This is a major effort and I have already placed hundreds of images on my web pages. A graphical reference list is both more pleasing to visit and helpful in book identification - especially those books published in a foreign language. I am hoping that my visitors (especially those from Japan - where books are hard to obtain) can also contribute. If you are interesting in helping. My only request is to sent me the images in JPG format with a top dimensions of 140 pixel (i.e. 140x90, 140x88. The second dimension being determined by the shape of the book). A short description of the book (author, title, publisher, date of publication, ISBN#, etc.) would also be appreciated. You will also be given credit for the reference whenever possible. Please only sent information on books which relates to the IJN in W.W.II. Thanks !! |
