My first 3-D project with Truespace (actually version 2) - A German Tiger I Ausf. E Tank. This specific tank belong to the German Tiger ace Michael Wittmann. Wittmann's record include the destruction of 138 enemy tanks and 132 anti-tank guns in the eastern and western fronts. I chose this as my first project because it was relatively simple - it was made mostly of simple square blocks and cylinders. The tracks however were a real bear. They are made up of hundreds of individual links. The model took me about 200 hours of modeling time (mostly because of the necessary research and my inexperience). It also allowed me to experiment with texture mapping (technique of putting a color map on a surface - I used it here to put on the camouflage and Zimmerit. Zimmerit is the ribbed like texture on the surface of the tank. This is a thick anti-magnetic plastic coating, made mostly out of sawdust designed to prevent magnetic grenades and demolition charges from sticking to metal surfaces.
