Model CA Tone - 04-01-25

Additional changes are outlined here - most with advice from Mr. Takami.

(A) The signal position was replaced with a more accurately shaped platform (with holes), and handrails which is attached to a back steel plate for support.

(B) The rungs to allow the observer to climb over the steel plate to gain access to the signal position have been added. The original model has this area opened. We have decided that this would let too much wind into the bridge area, and would provide insufficient support to the signal position.

(C) The overall height and position of the wind deflector has also been corrected. The height of the deflectors has been reduced using the information from the picture of TONE taken on June 17, 1944. The location of the deflector has been moved outward so that the back of the deflector now rest on the edge of the platform. The steel plates used here have been thinned. The navigational light has been added.

(D) The lateral wind deflector remains mostly unchanged. This is an area of debate between me and Mr. Takami who feels that lateral wind deflectors do not exists. They have been left on because they apparently exists on the cruiser TAKAO and are depicted on the FBMS TONE drawings.

(E) The size of the lower wind deflectors have also been enlarged outwards and downwards. The number of internal supports has been reduced to reflect the data from photos of TONE taken after her sinking. A cross-member has been added together with a rear space and cap to the central wind deflector.

(F) The top cover over the navigational lights has been rounded over. A shield has also been added to the front of the light.

(G) The bottom of the overhang for the enclosed compass bridge has been changed from a sharp right angle to a slant.

(H) A Type 93 torpedo fire-command panel has been added. A detailed view will be eventually added to the "mechanism" area.
