Model CA Tone - 00/11/24

The four steam pipes used to exhaust the boiler safety valves have been added together with a number of assorted smaller pipes. The safety valves are used to prevent over-pressure of the steam boilers as this can lead to damage and/or an explosion. As can be seen there is a manifold for the rear pipes to accept steam for the two rear boilers. Breaks have been inserted in the handrails to allow the installation of the pipes. A small platform have been placed next to the ladder. Next to the platform is the ship's fog horn. As mentioned previously, "the funnel" is actually two funnels joined together. On the real ships, these are joined together with a steel joining plate which is modeled here. This plates have holes in the middle to facilitate cooling of the enclosed space. Finally, two stacks of lumber have been placed on the small platform next to the funnel. These are used for emergency repairs i.e. should the hull be breached, this lumber can be used to hold patches in place to reduce flooding.
