Made good progress on the funnel today. As mentioned yesterday, the funnel is used as an exhaust for all eight boilers which are arranged pairwise in four groups. The forward trunk is used to exhaust boilers pairs 1,2 and 3,4. The rest of the four boilers utilize the rear exhaust trunk. Boilers burn oil mixed with air to generate heat which in turn generate steam to move the ship. As part of this process, a significant amount of air is consumed. Boilers 1 & 2 gets their air via the large intake located next to the bridge. Boilers 3,4,5, and 6 obtain their air supply via the large ventilators located next to the funnel. Finally, the intake for the last two boilers are located behind the funnel (not shown).
